New DZMx Firmware Platform

DZMx firmware platform 4 (v4.x.x) is on-track to be implemented before the end of Q2 2020. This firmware platform supports a new CPU that will be capable of supporting the data requirements of the DZMx for many years to come. In addition to this, the current cellular modems have been discontinued by the component supplier and this firmware platform will support the introduction of replacement modems.

The CPU change will be transparent to customers and it does not affect compatibility with previous DZMx versions, however the cellular modem change does have some implications for new purchasers. The new modems cannot operate globally at 4G/LTE data rates and they will need to be ordered for the geographical region the DZMx will be operating in. However, they will still work outside of their allocated regions at a fallback 3G data rate. The new modems are VoLTE ready and most have improved frequency band support for the regions they operate in, e.g. 700MHz for Asia Pacific, North America and Latin America.

The DZMx dash numbers will change to reflect the new modem options and a list of the new numbers will be sent to partners and resellers, prior to the firmware release.
