New Iridium PTT capable handheld
We recently received news that Land Mobile Radio (LMR) manufacturer Icom has produced a LMR style Iridium Push-To-Talk (PTT) radio. This will be familiar territory for first-responders and government agencies that already use LMR handheld radios. Iridium have their own PTT handheld, the Iridium Extreme, however it does not have a side press button, a top mounted on/off and volume selector, a loudspeaker, or a talkgroup selector.
The IC-SAT100 has been built with interoperability in mind and a planned RoIP gateway will link traditional LMR networks to Iridium PTT networks.
